Comparison of Mac Ruby Woo vs L'oreal Paris Color Rich Collection Star Pure Rouge by Freida Pinto

Hi everyone. I know I have been missing from writing my blogs for quiet some time now. But that's because I shifted to a new place for job purpose and that has kept me busy for too long now. But today while going through my phone I realized that I had promised a comparison review of Mac Ruby Woo versus L'oreal Paris Color Rich Star Collection in the shade Pure Rouge which is represented by Freida Pinto. Since I am a crazy person when it comes to red lipsticks, I had to take this one. It amused me that many bloggers had compared this lipstick with Mac Ruby Woo which is considered to be suitable for almost every skin tone. I won't drag the topic while describing it's packaging. It was very basic. The lipstick came in a plastic cover which was easy to be bifurcated. Details were mentioned on it which means once you lose the plastic you lose the ingredients list.

Now coming over to the actual topic - The Comparison. I don't own a Mac Ruby Woo but my friend does. So I asked her to do the swatches on her hand. By the way she worships Mac Ruby Woo and I don't blame her. The color is really pretty. The picture below will let you see the color of the bullets which looks identical.

Left - Mac Ruby Woo  Right - L'oreal Paris Pure Rouge
Mac Ruby Woo is from the collection of Retro Matte. As the name suggests the lipstick totally matte. Now I do love matte lipsticks but I don't like when it feels too dry to apply which was the case with Ruby Woo. On the other hand L'oreal Paris Pure Roue was smooth to apply and it turned matte after few minutes. When I asked my friend to swatch both the lipsticks, I could clearly see her struggle to rub Mac Ruby Woo 2-3 times to show the color pay-off properly. While on the other hand, L'oreal Paris Pure Rouge was a dream to apply. The color showed instantly without rubbing it a number of times.

Left Swatch - L'oreal Paris Pure Rouge  Right Swatch - Mac Ruby Woo
When you see the swatches you can see the colors do comes close to each other. Will I call L'oreal Paris Pure Rouge a dupe of Mac Ruby Woo? Absolutely. No second thoughts on that. In fact L'oreal Paris Pure Rouge is a shade darker than Ruby Woo. But am pretty sure it will suit on everyone who uses Mac Ruby Woo. Now for the price. While the online price of Mac Ruby Woo is Rs. 1950/-, the marked price of L'oreal Paris Pure Rouge lipstick is Rs. 995/- though I got it around 750/- from amazon.in during an off period. I am sure you can find discount if you buy it from amazon. The only minus point that I find in L'oreal Paris Collection Star lipstick is that the bullets are very soft and they tend to break at a high temperature. Now, nobody likes broken bullets of a lipstick. It not only breaks our heart but it also becomes difficult to apply. But so far the bullet of this lipstick is intact (Thanks Goodness!) But given the price and the quantity of the lipstick I won't mind to apply this lipstick with a brush if I had to. Mac Ruby Woo is a superb color but I don't like such dry lipsticks. If you have no issues in applying a dry lipstick then also I will recommend L'oreal Paris Pure Rouge because of it's price. It turns complete matte after a short while and the color is so similar to Ruby Woo.

Swatch on my Lips- L'oreal Paris Collection Star Pure Rouge
I am wearing L'oreal Paris Color Rich Collection Star Pure Rouge on my lips in the above picture The lipstick doesn't dry out my lips nor make it chapped. I have wheatish skin tone and it suits me just fine. I tried Mac Ruby Woo but I gave up because of all the hard rubbing on my lips. So to sum up my comparison below are my final wording:

Q.Is L'oreal Paris Color Rich Collection Star Pure Rouge a dupe of Mac Ruby Woo?
A. Yes.

Q. Which one is more matte?
A. Mac Ruby Woo and it's very drying.

Q. Will L'oreal Paris Color Rich Collection Star Pure Rouge dry out my lips?
A. It doesn't dry out the lips but it's always suggested to use a lip balm before hand and then blot it on tissue paper and then apply a matte lipstick. It will assure that you don't have chapped lips.

Q. What is the staying power of both the lipstick?
A. I am not sure about the staying power of Mac Ruby Woo but Pure Rouge stays a really long time and survives meals. It eventually fades away after long hours but still leaves a tint behind which looks pretty.
